Holiday Gift Guide: for Her!

The holidays are coming around so quick and Christmas will be here before we know it.  So I thought I'd go a gift guide on ideas of what to buy for mum, sisters, girlfriends etc to help with those of you that are stuck on what to buy and don't want to leave it to the last minute.

This is an awesome product.  I don't have one myself but I am seriously looking into getting one.  I've heard so many great reviews on this.  It's basically an electronic face brush that vibrates and pulses against your skin removing all the dirt and dead skin cells.  The one I've attached is the Mia one at £90 but they have just brought out the Mia 2 which retails at roughly £112.  However, if you didn't want to spend that much and you wasn't sure if you'd like it Olay do a really good version at £30

Urban Decay Naked Palettes

I absolutely love these eyeshadow palettes.  I have the first one and really want to get the second and basics.  They have the most gorgeous array of neutral tones with a mixture of matte and shimmer.  They are so beautiful and super pigmented.  Perfect for creating a smokey eye.  If you know someone who is a lover of neutral eyeshadows like I am then this is definitely the palette for them.

Boots

Every girl loves a pair of shoes but some girls really really love their shoes and I'd say I'm one of those girls.  During the winter months I love rocking a good pair of boots.  One of my favourite places to shop for shoes is Kurt Geiger and they emailed me yesterday to say they are doing 25% off everything until Sunday so I thought I'd have a cheeky look on their website.

http://www.kurtgeiger.com/women/shoes/boots/sadie-black-leather-41-carvela-kurt-geiger-shoe.html These are really cool ankle boots with a chunky heel.  I think they'd look cute with a knitted jumper dress and tights or with skinny jeans and a leather jacket.

http://www.kurtgeiger.com/women/shoes/boots/william-black-leather-fabric-41-kg-kurt-geiger-shoe.html These are new in and I reckon they'll be quite a sell out.  Again I think they would look fab with a dress or jeans and will definitely keep her warm and stylish throughout winter.  Who doesn't want that!

Scarves

A scarf is a good present to buy, especially if it's for someone you don't know that well, maybe a secret santa present or someone at work.  I actually bought a scarf for my boss last year and she loved it.  Zara have got some fab scarves in at the minute in an array of colours and patterns.  They are good quality chunky scarves too so guaranteed to keep her warm.  http://www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/accessories/scarves-c271013.html

Nail Polish Set

Another gift idea I came up with was a nail polish set.  I think this is a good gift for girly girls who love having pretty nails.  My favourite nail polish brand is Nails Inc.  I think it's so good because it lasts up to a week without any chipping which is good for a busy girl like me who doesn't have time to keep touching up my nail polish.  This is my favourite set

http://www.asos.com/Nails-Inc/Nails-Inc-Best-Dressed-Nails-Mini-Nail-Polish-Collection/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3463713&cid=4108&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=9999&sort=-1&clr=Bestdressed+dressed&affid=5571&WT.srch=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term={adwords_producttargetid}&utm_content=&utm_campaign=&cvosrc=ppc.google.{adwords_producttargetid}&network={network}&mobile={ifmobile:1}&search={ifsearch:1}&content={ifcontent:1}&creative={creative}&ptid={adwords_producttargetid}&adposition={adposition}&gclid=CMiI3M_Oh7sCFZGWtAodSy0AAQ.

Hair Tools

I think hair tools are a great gift for a girl because I think it's something that not many girls will go out and buy themselves because they don't always feel like they need it.  But oh honey, you do.  My favourite hair tool brand is Remington.  I have the conical wand, straighteners and pro curler by them and I love every product.  They heat up super fast and give a great finish.  Check them out!

http://uk.remington-europe.com/women/haircare/

Camera

If you were looking for a more expensive gift maybe for your girlfriend then I think a camera would make a great present.  You can get some great deals on digital cameras at the moment and I think my favourite brand would have to be Samsung.  I particularly like this one

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/compact-digital-cameras/samsung-dv151f-advanced-compact-digital-camera-purple-21334505-pdt.html?gclid=CKatv8rQh7sCFTHLtAodQ0UALQ&srcid=198&cmpid=ppc~gg~~~Exact&mctag=gg_goog_7904&s_kwcid=AL!3391!3!30417239244!!!g!60594568435!&ef_id=lp9PEFDS@CIAAM59:20131128135320:s

which is purple although I think it comes in other colours but hey I like the purple!  It also has 16.2 megapixels, 5x optical zoom and films in HD.  It also has a screen on the front so you can take cheeky selfies without cutting your head off which I thought was rather cool!

Perfume

Perfume always goes down well as a gift and I know is rather pradictable but I had to include it.  It's best to know what sort of perfume she enjoys to wear rather than just guessing as women have different tastes and there's a lot of perfume on the shelves out there.  One that I have actually asked for Christmas myself this year is Marc Jacobs Dot

http://www.fragrancedirect.co.uk/marc-jacobs/marc-jacobs-dot-eau-de-parfum-spray-30ml/invt/0042469?utm_source=google&utm_medium=merchant&utm_keyword=foo&istCompanyId=17773c4e-a26f-4631-9b91-73e6422dbe77&istItemId=xtawtwtql&istBid=tztl&gclid=CIjOh8bRh7sCFfMctAodhDwAWQ.

I have Marc Jacobs Daisy already and it's one of my faves.  My ex housemate got this for Christmas last year and I fell in love but I think like hair tools, perfume is another thing that girls don't always buy for themselves.

Make-Up Brushes

Make-up brushes make excellent gifts especially for girls who enjoy their make-up.  I think a nice brush set would be a good present to receive and Real Techniques do a few of them.  I think a good one to buy for someone who is just starting out with make-up or maybe doesn't have many brushes is the core collection

http://www.hqhair.com/real-techniques-core-collection-kit-face/10644478.html?utm_source=googleprod&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=gp_cosmetics&affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=GBP&gclid=CPHgyYbSh7sCFckSwwodvRIA_g

this includes a foundation brush, contour brush, small detailing brush and buffing brush.  So all the basic ideal brushes.  I actually have this collection and use the brushes every day.  They are so worth it.

So those are all the gift ideas I came up with.  Hope you found this useful!

November Favourites 2013!!

I can't believe we're almost at the end of the year, scary!

Here are some of the things I've been loving throughout November.

Products

Now that I've got my hair extensions back in I needed to change up the products I've been using in my hair to make it more managable.  The first product I've been enjoying is the Tigi Rockaholic Born to Rock Leave In Detangler and Defrizzer (http://www.lookfantastic.com/tigi-rockaholic-leave-in-detangler-200ml/10475101.html).  This is great if you have long thick hair or thick curly hair because it really gets those knots out and leaves your hair feeling soft.  You apply it to towel dried hair and distribute evenly.

The next product is also by Toni and Guy and it's the Tigi Headrush Shine Spray (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tigi-Headrush-Shine-Spray-200ml/dp/B002AF3GG8).  This is the last product I use after I've styled my hair and it gives it a nice shine without looking greasy or oily.

Next up is some straighteners by Nicky Clarke (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4440099.htm).  I didn't really fancy forking out for GHDs when I know so many other brands do really good dupes now.  I did have a pair of GHDs but my puppies chewed through the wire, bad puppies!  So I've been using these and they're so good for the price.  They really get through my thick hair (extensions) and I only have to go over each section twice before it's poker straight meaning I can do my whole head in about 15 minutes.  These get really hot so be careful!

Another product I've been getting a lot of use out of and I think I might have mentioned in my October favourites is my Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mascara (http://www.boots.com/en/Estee-Lauder-Sumptuous-Extreme-Mascara_1159807/).  This mascara really seperates your lashes which is exactly what I was looking for in a mascara because my last one was a bit clumpy and I don't like that.  I like lashes to look long and pretty and natural looking.

The next thing is not so much a product but more a service; I had my eyelashes tinted.  I wasn't sure at first whether it was worth it or not but I had them done about a week ago now and I definitely think it's worth it.  They look a lot more visible which in turn makes them appear longer and thicker.  It means you don't have to wear mascara if you don't want to, however, it doesn't make them look like you're actually wearing mascara so if you like that look then you may want to still apply it.  I just wanted it for make-up free days and so I don't look so terrible first thing in the morning!

Next is another service and that's gel nails or shellac.  I've been having these done for about a month now and get them re-done every two weeks.  At first I thought it may be a waste of money as I spend about £30-35 each month having this done but I'm so lazy with painting my nails and don't always have the time so this is much better for me and they last for two weeks without chipping and too much re-growth.  Also, it means I can go for a new colour each time.  At the moment I have a dark shimmery pink which matches my Chanel phone cover :)

Apps

I recently downloaded an app called 'Sleep Time' on the recommendation of my cousin and it basically records your sleep pattern.  So you set your alarm time and then put the phone on the bed next to you.  It will then record when you're awake, light sleeping and deep sleeping.  It will wake you up when you're in a light sleep somewhere between the time you set your alarm for and 30 minutes prior.  This way you wake up easier and not when you're in a nice deep sleep.  You then get to check out your sleep pattern throughout the night and it's actually quite fascinating.  I wake up 2-3 times every night so mine looks a bit mental!

Entertainment

I've just started getting into American Horror Story which is on it's third season called Coven.  I didn't watch the first two but it's really easy to follow and get in to.  I would definitely recommend if you like a bit of a scare.  It's not terrifying or anything though but probably not for you if you're a total wimp haha.

Health

I'm a huge pasta lover but at the same time I don't like to consume too many carbs so I recently saw Millie Mackintosh (yeah I'm a tad obsessed with her!) post a photo on her Instagram of 'zoodles' which are zucchini or courgette noodles.  You basically take a courgette and using a julienne peeler, scrape it down the courgette and you get long noodles.  You can then use this as you would pasta or egg noodles and fry them lightly in a little oil, add some pesto, prawns or whatever and you have a tasty healthy meal!  Lovely lovely.

That's all of my favourites for this month.  I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe found some inspiration!

Beauty Products I Need In My Life

I've had my eye on a few beauty products lately and I'm just wishing payday would hurry up so I can go shopping!

The first thing I've been looking at is the 32mm curling wand by Remington (http://www.boots.com/en/Remington-Pearl-CI9532-Pro-Curl-Hair-Styler_1250874/) and they're actually doing it half price at Boots at the moment so I think that's even more reason to purchase!  Since I've had my hair extensions put back in I think the size of this wand would give a really good curl to my hair.  I already have the conical wand by Remington and sometimes the curls are bit on the small/tight size whereas I prefer bigger/looser curls.

The next thing on my list is the Real Techniques Limited Edition Duo Fiber Set (http://www.boots.com/en/Real-Techniques-Limited-Edition-Duo-Fibre-Set_1333699/).  I absolutely LOVE Real Techniques' brushes and already have the expert face brush and core collection.  They just make applying your make-up so much easier and give such a nice finish.  Samantha Chapman, I take my hat off to you!

Next up is the Sleek I Divine Eye Shadow palette in Au Naturel (http://www.superdrug.com/sleek/sleek-i-divine-eye-shadow-au-naturel/invt/228225).  I love my Naked palette by Urban Decay but I sometimes find it hasn't got enough matte colours in it so I found this palette with very similar colours and a lot of them are matte.  Also, it's a fraction of the price so definitely worth it!

Then, a rather ramdon one, but I've wanted to get my teeth whitened for ages but I don't really want to spend masses of money, especially if I'm not sure it will work or how long it will last for so I saw this kit on Wowcher (http://www.wowcher.co.uk/nationwide/national-deal/deal-107906-detail/19-instead-129-smile-science-peroxide-free-led/deal.html) and think I might give it a go.  We'll see, it could go horribly wrong but I will be sure to review it if I do make a purchase!

The last thing I've been looking at is the MAC Holiday Collection Noctural Pigments (http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/11817/28027/New-Collections/nocturnals-mini-kits/Eyes/Nocturnals-Pigments-and-Glitter-Black-and-Gold/index.tmpl).  I've wanted a MAC pigment for ages and have never got around to choosing which one because I just like them all!  This set comes with 5 and for £25.50 I don't think that's a bad price.

Well those are the main things I've been looking at.  Obviously there is a long list of things that I want but I won't bore you with everything!

I hope you enjoy this post and check out my other social sites.

Current Skin Care Routine

This is my current skin care routine that I have probably been doing for the most part of this year and it's really worked for me.  My skin is so clear and I hardly ever suffer with breakouts.  I generally prefer to do this routine in the night time before I go to bed as opposed to the mornings when I have less time.

So I start off removing my make-up with Pure face wipes and I actually get these from the £1 shop http://www.poundland.co.uk/health-and-beauty/healthcare/skin-treatments/pure-exfoliating-face-wipes-20-pack.  I'm not too fussed which kind of face wipes I use, anything that will get the majority of my make-up off before I start my proper skincare routine will do.

Next I splash warm water over my face and wash it with Johnson & Johnson Softly Foaming Facial Wash.  I actually bought this last year and I don't know if they sell it anymore but you can buy a similar product here http://www.superdrug.com/johnson+johnson/johnson+johnson-nourishing-cleansing-wash/invt/217825.  I squirt 2 pumps of this onto my finger tips and massage it all round my face and under my chin.  Then I splash my face again with warm water to remove it all.  I then pat my face dry using a clean towel.  Twice a week I like to swap this product for my Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant http://www.dermalogica.co.uk/uk/html/products/gentle-cream-exfoliant-9.html which just gets off any dry skin that has built up.  I only do this twice a week because anymore is too harsh for my skin and if you keep scrubbing at your skin everyday it will produce more oil and you will get more breakouts!

Then next step is to take my L'Oreal Eye Make-Up Remover http://www.superdrug.com/clearer-skin/loreal-eye-make-up-remover-125ml/invt/73395 which I am absolutely loving at the moment and remove any excess eye make-up that didn't come off with the face wipe and has probably now formed panda eyes.  I use cotton pads to do this.

Once my face is clear of all dirt and make-up I use a toner by No7.  I don't believe they have the one that I have anymore but you can find a similar one here http://www.boots.com/en/No7-Soft-Soothed-Gentle-Toner-200ml_1259433/.  I put 3 blobs of this onto a cotton pad and then wipe it over my t-zone and around my nose.  I only put it over the areas where my pores are largest.  I don't really know why I do this but I find toners are quite drying and so I don't like to put it over the areas of my skin which are dry and dry them out even more.  Also, the purpose of a toner is to close the pores that have been opened whilst washing in warm water so that's why I put it on my larger pores.  So many people skip out the toner step but I think it's actually the most important step.  If you don't use a toner then you won't close any of the pores, leaving them open to more dirt and more blemishes.

Then I use Simple Kind to Skin Replenishing Rich moisturiser http://www.boots.com/en/Simple-Kind-To-Skin-Replenishing-Rich-Moisturiser-125ml_8366/ all over my face and down my neck.  This moisturiser is quite thick which I like because my skin is quite dry and if I'm putting it on before I go to bed I know it will be completely soaked in by the time I wake up.

Then the last step is to go in with an under eye cream to prevent any wrinkles and for this I use Dermalogica Intensive Eye Repair http://www.dermalogica.co.uk/uk/html/products/intensive-eye-repair-34.html?type=function&cat=eye+treatments which is nice and thick and has lots of lovely vitamins in it :)  I put this in the corner of my eyes, under my eyes and around the top of my eyes.  I just lightly dab this on with my finger.

And that's my full skin care routine.  I hope you enjoy reading this post and checking out the products I like to use.

How To Cream Highlight & Contour

Ever since Kim Kardashian posted that contour and highlight photo there has been a mega craze in the beauty world to achieve this look.  Here is just a step-by-step guide of how I create this look using cream products.  I prefer to use cream products to really get this look to be flawless as I find that powders can sometimes look a little harsh and obvious.

Before you start you want to make sure you have already primed your skin and applied foundation.  Make sure the foundation is a liquid or cream based one and not powder or this won’t work.  You can’t put liquid over powder, only the other way around.

Firstly I take a light concealer with a yellow tone as this is the same tone as my foundation, to highlight certain points of my face.  I’ve done lines on my chin, above my lip, around my nose, in between my eyebrows, above my brow bone and along the bottom of my cheeks.  Then taking a foundation brush I am going to blend this all out.  I used Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in light http://www.boots.com/en/Collection-2000-Lasting-Perfection-Concealer_984434/

Highlighting

For the next steps I take a light concealer with a pink tone as this is opposite to my foundation meaning it will counteract and eliminate dark circles under my eyes and make them look more awake.  I put 3 spots of this under each eye and then blend it all out.  I used MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW20 http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/shaded/157/10181/Pro-Longwear-Concealer/index.tmpl

Concealing

Then the last step is to take a cream bronzer or a cream foundation that is 4-5 shades darker than your usual one on a contour brush or a large tapered brush.  Then you run this underneath your cheek bones, brushing in the direction up towards your ear.  Then put a little around your temples and along the top of your forehead.  Then as before, you want to blend it all in.  The key to this look really is just to blend blend blend!  If you still have quite harsh lines then you can go back with your foundation brush and lightly blend that over it.  If the bronzer comes down too far on your cheeks you can go back with your concealer and add more to the bottom of your cheeks.  The bronzer I have used is Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_123152510599_-1 You can also put a little under your bottom lip to make them look fuller.

Contour
Contouring

Then once you’ve completed these steps you can set it all with a good powder.  I like to use Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in translucent http://www.boots.com/en/Rimmel-Stay-Matte-Pressed-Powder_1015573/ Then you can finish the rest of your make-up adding blush and lipstick etc.  Sometimes I will also do my eyes first for this depending on how dramatic I am doing them as I may need to add concealer after to cover up any fall down from the eye shadow but it’s up to you.

Finished with rest of make-up
Finished before rest of make-up

I hope you enjoy re-creating this.

The 5 Best Ways To Lose Weight

Losing weight is a hard process.  Especially when you have busy work schedules, school, children, etc etc.  So I’m going to share with you the best ways that I find to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.

1. Drink Plenty of Water

So many of us don’t drink enough water and a lot of the time when we think we’re hungry we actually just need to fill our stomachs with more water.  It is recommended that we drink 8-12 glasses of water a day depending on our height.  My tip is to drink a glass of water before each meal as well as during.  This way you will get full up quicker and not eat as much.  Then just keep drinking water throughout the day.  A good way of doing this is to carry a water bottle around with you.  Another good tip is to drink a glass of ice cold water first thing in the morning.  This will kick start your metabolism meaning you will burn off food quicker throughout the day.

2. Cut Out the Refined Carbs

By this I mean white rice, white bread, milk, sugar, honey etc.  This is easier to do than you think.  You just have to find an alternative replacement.  These days you can find lots of whole wheat alternatives such as whole wheat pasta, bread, rice etc.  Or even better replace the rice or pasta with veggie carbs.  These are a different type of carb called complex which the body finds a lot easier to break down and use as energy.  Plus vegetables are going to give you a lot more vitamins and minerals at the same time.  These will help you stay fuller for longer too.  As for milk you can get soya or almond milk versions which are dairy free.

3. Don’t Just Do Cardio

I know you may think doing 50 aerobics classes a week or running on a treadmill for 2 hours a day is going to make you lose lots of weight and turn you into Abbey Clancy but trust me it isn’t.  I have made this mistake so many times and now I have finally found a workout regime that works for.  You need to mix it up and incorporate weights else your body is going to get too use to the same thing and after a while it won’t work anymore.  Each week I now do a 90 minute yoga class, 60 minute pilates, 60 minutes step aerobics incorpating weights, 60 minute body conditioning incorporating weights, 60 minute street dance class and 30 lengths of the swimming pool.  This way I have got a good variety of cardio, stretching and toning all of which is going to help in weight loss and maintain that healthy weight.  Variety is the spice of life remember!  Plus, with pilates and weight lifting your body continues to burn calories after the workout where with cardio once you’re done, you’re done.

4. Don’t Eat Fruit After 2pm

It’s been drummed into us that we should eat lots of fruit and get our 5 a day because fruit is really good for us and it is BUT it also contains a tonne of sugar which is not so good.  Many athletes won’t eat fruit at all when training because of this reason.  However, I don’t think we should cut fruit out of our diets altogether but I think we need a curfew haha.  So I won’t eat any fruit after 2pm.  This way, anything I have eaten before this still has a chance to be burnt off before I go to bed.  Otherwise, the sugar we are eating will turn into fat if it is not used up in energy and we all know where the fat goes!  So to get my five a day I may have a piece of fruit with breakfast, another piece with lunch and then 3 portions of vegetables with my dinner.

5. Keep a Food Diary

My last tip and probably the most important is to keep a food diary.  I know this seems time consuming but you can actually get little apps on the phone now that help with this.  I like to use My Fitness Pal and it even includes all the calories and fat content in the food you have consumed.  You can also input your exercises so you know how many calories you have burned off.  This is good because it stops you from going overboard and exceeding your calorie limit for the day because sometimes we can forget what we’ve eaten, especially if it’s been a long day.  You might not think it but all those little snacks add up.  The key here is to be honest.  Fitness is like marriage, if you cheat on it it’s not going to work.  Record absolutely everything and even how it made you feel so you can go back on it to see what worked for you and what didn’t.

I hope you found this post helpful.  These are just things that work for me in maintaining a healthy weight and staying slim and toned.  Everyone does things differently and everyone’s bodies work differently so if you’ve found a way that works for you then stick with that.

Hair Extensions: Everything You Need To Know

Yesterday I had keratin bonded (glue) hair extensions put in.  I have had these done before and my sister is the hairdresser so I’m becoming a bit of an expert now!  Therefore, I wanted to share my experiences with you.

The extensions that I have had put in are 100% human hair (European).  They are a dark brown colour which I got matched to my own hair and are 20 inches long.  I originally bought 100 grams although I have about 25 grams left over so I am going to return those as they are untouched.  It cost me £50 per 25 grams and I bought them from a place called Tasha Jacks in Kent.  They have a variety of colours, lengths and other types of hair such as Asian or Russian.

When I had them before

I had them put in with a glue gun taking tiny sections of my hair and gluing tiny strands of the extension hair to it.  This whole process took about 3 hours.

Once they are in your hair you are not allowed to wash your hair for roughly a week.  This is because the bonds are not allowed to get wet as they need to completely dry the whole way through and set to your hair.

When I had them before

Once you are able to wash your hair it is important you take care of the extensions.  A lot of places suggest you buy ridiculously overpriced hair extension shampoo and condition but honestly for me I found that regular shampoo and condition that I always used was absolutely fine and didn’t damage the extensions at all.  What I will say is when conditioning your hair, be careful not to put any conditioner directly on the bonds because it could make them slide out.  I always put extra conditioner on the ends of the extensions too because I find these dry out a lot but it depends on the type of hair you’ve got.

When styling the hair obviously be careful of heat near the bonds.  You don’t want to put the hairdryer too close to them as they could melt.  And similarly you don’t want to put any kind of straighteners or curling tongs near the bonds because again this will melt them.

Just before I had them taken out

If I want to brush my hair when it is wet I use a normal hard plastic bristle brush like a Denman or something and start at the ends and working up until I get to the bonds.  I normally hold the top of my hair with one hand so as to not pull too hard on the bonds which could rip them out.  If I want to brush my hair when it is dry or to brush it back into a ponytail etc then I use a special hair extension brush which has soft bristles and is a lot gentler.

Another thing to be careful of is Moroccan oil or hair oil etc.  This is great for putting through the ends of the hair because like I said mine really dries out but don’t put it anywhere near the bonds because they could slide out.

After I had them taken out

Sometimes you will find when you first wash your hair after having them put in, that one or two will fall out.  This is completely fine and you can always ask for them to be put back in.  Some people will go back and have maintenance done on their hair every month or so but I found that I didn’t actually need that at all.  My sister done a really good job when she put them in last time and in 6 months only two fell out.

I kept mine in for 6 months because I found after this they started to really grow out and you could see some of the bonds through my hair.  Also, the hair that had grown above the bonds started to matt slightly and obviously I couldn’t brush it through and so they were starting to matt together in a clump.

After I had it cut

When you have them taken out you can either go to a hairdresser’s or do it yourself.  I actually went to the hairdressers last time because I wasn’t entirely sure what I was doing and I didn’t want to ruin my hair but I think this time I will do it myself as it took a long time and was rather expensive.

So basically for removal you need to get acetone on some cotton buds, wrap it round the hair and then secure in place with tin foil.  Once all the bonds are covered you need to leave for 30mins to 1hr or until the bonds start to soften.  They will then either slide out or you can use some pliers (you can buy special ones just for hair extension removal) to break the bond and remove it along with the hair extension.  You could also use some oil or conditioner to help them slide out.

When I had them done yesterday

I did find that some of my own hair came out in the process which is as to be expected.  However, my own hair had grown a great deal in the 6 months I had the extensions in and so I had about 4 inches cut off and it was back to being really thick and healthy again.

Once you have had them removed you want to use a good hair mask once a week and put oil on the ends every other day to really help restore it back to health.  I also found it really helped to have a good cut as it had gone quite dry and thin at the ends.  I’m not going to say it doesn’t ruin your hair by having the extensions because it does to a certain extent but nothing that can’t be fixed in a month or so and it hasn’t put me off having them done again 5 months later!

I hope you found this post useful and feel free to ask any questions.

How To Create Massive Voluminous Hair

I don’t know about you but I absolutely LOVE having big hair so I thought I would do a really simple step-by-step guide of how I get my hair big.

1.         I find it always helps by washing your hair with a volume creating shampoo and conditioner.  Also, when your hair is freshly washed it is normally more fluffy and bouncy which is perfect for achieving this look.

2.         Then dry your hair in the usual way but at the end tip your head upside down and give the roots a good blast.  This will make the cuticles dry in the opposite direction and help push them up.

3.         Then you want to take sections of your hair and roll it up into Velcro rollers.  Leave these in for about an hour.  I also like to give mine a little spray with hairspray for extra hold.

4.         Then you want to get a volumising spray or a root lifting product to spray into the roots and massage through.  This will help lift the roots even more.  You can also try dry shampoo which works just as well.

5.         You can just leave the look there and add your own style.  I sometimes like to take the top section, push it up slightly and pin into place.  Then I’ll add some shine spray to the bottom section I’ve left down and lastly spray the whole thing with hairspray so it all stays in place.

And that’s pretty much it.  Simple right!  I hope you enjoy creating this look as much as I do.

October Favourites 2013: Beauty, Makeup & Jewellery!

Here are all the things I have been loving in the month of October.

Bag

The bag I have constantly been using all throughout October, pretty much every day in fact is my new Valentino bag.  I posted a photo of this on my Instagram (@wonky_lauren).  It’s a lovely grey and cream mix of soft leather with a long strap which I leave hanging down and a shorter strap.  The best thing about this bag is that it doesn’t look absolutely massive but you can fit a lot into it.  This makes it perfect for work etc because you can shove everything you need for the day in there.  My bag is literally a Mary Poppins’ bag because I hoard so much stuff in it!

Shoes

The shoes I have been loving this month are actually my new River Island boots.  I think I’ve already blogged about these and I certainly featured them in my clothing haul video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKKpatnRsNg) but I honestly love these so much!  I don’t know if I told you the story behind them but basically I saw Mille Mackintosh in a pair of these boots from Russell and Bromley which were Stuart Weitzman at £395 (http://www.russellandbromley.co.uk/long-boots/50-50/invt/372099).  I didn’t really want to spend that on a pair of boots and then I came across these which are literally identical and only £60!  So I was really really happy with this purchase and have been getting lots of wear out of them.  Navy is going to be really big for this season too.

Skincare

Two skincare products I have been using lots in October are my L’Oreal Gentle Eye Make-up Remover (http://www.superdrug.com/clearer-skin/loreal-eye-make-up-remover-125ml/invt/73395) and Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream (http://www.dermalogica.co.uk/uk/html/products/skin-smoothing-cream-15.html) for dry or prematurely aging skin.  I featured these in my beauty haul video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U19dhsvlZoU). The make-up remover is excellent because I tend to wear a lot of mascara or waterproof mascara which can sometimes be hard to get off at the end of the day or when only using a make-up wipe so after I’ve used a make-up wipe and washed my face I then use this to get off the excess and it literally removes everything.  I think it’s a really good price too and will probably last me ages.

The moisturiser I really like because it makes your skin so soft and smoothing and literally does exactly what it says on the label!  I have quite dry skin so it is quite thick, I’m not sure I would recommend this for oily skin but I think they do an oily version too.

Bodycare

I’m not always great at putting lotions and potions onto my body and can sometimes neglect my skin.  I think I just find it quite time consuming and I’m always so busy that it gets forgotten.  However, something that I do always make time for is fake tan!  The one I have been loving this month is the Superdrup Solait Tinted Bronzing Lotion in dark (http://www.superdrug.com/superdrug/solait-tinted-bronzing-lotion-dark-tan/invt/385358) this also comes in light and medium.  It’s a bargain at £6.99 and they’re always doing offers such as half price or two for £10.  I really like this lotion because it goes on easily using a mitt, dries quickly and doesn’t give too much of a fake looking tan if that makes sense.  So it only gives a nice glow with one coat or you can apply more for a heavier tan, depending on what you want.

Make-up

Make-up that I’ve been enjoying wearing a lot this month is my Urban Decay NAKED palette as always.  This is my ultimate favourite eye shadow palette and although it’s pricey it is SO WORTH IT!!  I am definitely 100% going to get the Naked 2, I can’t wait to try that out.  I did a blog post recently on a look I created using this palette so be sure to check that out!

Another make-up product I’ve been luving is my MAC prolong wear concealer.  This concealer is so good for under the eyes and never creases.  I get quite dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep and this covers them up making me look like I’ve had a good 9hrs kip!  It’s also good for covering up blemishes.  It can come out quite thick but if used right and blended in well it’s amazing.

The last make-up product I’ve been wearing a lot this month is a lip crayon by Avon (http://avonshop.co.uk/product/make-up/lips/avon-ultra-colour-lip-crayon.html).  I wanted a lip crayon for ages but didn’t want to pay out for the Clinique chubby stick if I didn’t like it.  I love the Avon version though and it’s a steal at just £5.50 (although I got it on offer so it may have gone up slightly now).  It’s very buttery like and lasts quite a while.  I got mine in the colour notice me nude.

Jewellery

Jewellery is the one thing I don’t wear enough of.  I always seem to forget to put it on, namely because I’m always running late and in a rush to get out the door!  But I have been loving shorter statement necklaces this month and I went to New Look recently and purchased two.  These are also featured in my clothing haul video.  The first one is lots of little rings of gold, diamante and nude (http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/jewellery-and-hair-accessories/gold-bead-stone-necklace-_278607470) and the second one has little gemmed flowers on it (http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/jewellery-and-hair-accessories/pink-and-gold-rope-flower-gemstone-necklace_286980270).  They are both quite neutral colours meaning they will go with everything so I am really happy with these purchases and hope I get a lot of wear from them.  I really like New Look for jewellery actually because they have some really pretty pieces that are always on trend but won’t break the bank.

I hope you enjoyed this post!
