Thursday Ten: How To Take The Perfect Selfie

Welcome to my new series of Thursday Ten.  I want to add more 'life' stuff on my blog rather than just beauty and fashion.

Starting off with how to take the perfect selfie because at this day and age with social media and technology as vast as it is, we all love a good selfie!

1.  Make sure the camera is at the right angle.  Taking it too high or too low can enhance features you may not want enhancing!

2.  Try and get a nice background.  Obviously you don't need anything amazing because the main feature is you but nothing horrible like a toilet or rubbish bin.

3.  Use filters.  We all do this either on Instagram or the iPhone's filter options.  This can bring out colours or make you look more tanned.

4.  Air brushing.  This may be taking it too far but I have an app called Cream Cam and it basically air brushes your face.  I only use it on 50% as it can look too obvious otherwise but it's good for blurring out any imperfections.

5.  Good lighting.  Try to take in natural light and stand in front of a window.  If it's night time stand under the light or in front of a lamp.

6.  Try and try again.  Take more than one shot and play around a bit to see what you like best and what works for you.

7.  Confidence.  Taking selfies can actually boost your confidence.  If you really like one, set it as your profile picture or post it on Instagram to see how many likes you get.  Confidence boosted :)

8.  Pixels.  Use a camera with good pixels.  Generally most smart phones now have really good cameras in them.  You can also get a great shot from SLR cameras too though.

9.  Make sure you delete any ugly ones you don't like!

10.  Practise your smile in front of the mirror before you take the shot.  Teeth, no teeth, pout?

Hair Extensions: Update

I did a blog post (here) about 18 months ago about my keratin bonded hair extensions.  I've had them removed since and was going to have them re-applied when I thought I would give some clip-ins a go.

I've had bonded hair extensions in twice and whilst I love them they can be hard work and when it comes to removing them it takes ages and pulls out a lot of your natural hair.

I had a clip-on hair piece which I bought in Sydney before I got the bonded extensions and found it really easy to use.  As I'd heard so much hype about the Bellami extensions I thought I would give them a go.  They were pretty pricey and I got absolutely killed with the customs fee being shipped over to the UK but I think they were worth it as they are gorgeous pieces of hair.

I went for the 220g in 22 inches and the colour mochachino, although this was a bit too much hair for me and I only really wear half of them.  I prefer to curl them before I put them in as they are pretty long although I may get my sister (the hairdresser) to cut them down a bit.  I used my Remington curling wand on them and then left them to set overnight.  The curls then dropped slightly into a gorgeous wave and have lasted ages.

I don't wear them loads which is good because then I don't have to wash them as often which is what will wear them down.  They say they last for roughly 6 months but I think I will probably get about 12 months out of them as I only wear them maybe 2-3 times per month.

If you are thinking of getting clip-in extensions I would highly recommend these as they feel beautiful, look stunning and completely natural.  They are thick from root to tip and don't matte at all.  You can wash them and use all kinds of heated tools and products on them.

Have you tried Bellami extensions?  What do you think of them?  I'm tempted to try the Kylie ones next!

Paris in a Day

This post is a bit late but I wanted to do it anyway because I managed to get some good photos.

My sister and I have really close birthdays so generally we like to do something to celebrate together rather than buying each other presents as our birthdays are also pretty close to Christmas.  This year we decided to go to Paris for the day.  You can get the Eurostar from 3 destinations in the UK and it only takes just over 2 hours to get there.

We took the 6am train and was in Paris by 9am (they're an hour in front).  Being the geek that I am I found a really good itinerary online (here) and we managed to see all the main attractions as well as stopping for breakfast, lunch and dinner because the food there really is incredible!  We also managed to get in a little shop in Champs Elysee and they had Christmas markets on near the Eiffel Tower.

We got the 8pm train back and was home and in bed by 10:30pm!  All in all it was a really good day even though it rained a little in the morning.  I am hoping to go back and do it again in September.

Here are some of the photos I took... Enjoy xx

Wear | Life | Eats: Valentine's Day

Wear

I'll be honest, I've never really been a fan of Valentine's Day.  I'm not really into that lovey, dovey, cheesy stuff but it's still a good enough excuse to get dressed up and drink champagne whether you're in a relationship or not.

I actually opted to wear something red but not on purpose.  Red is my favourite colour to wear so I wore a red checked shirt from Abercrombie and Fitch, black ripped denim short, tights and my new Givenchy style Kurt Geiger boots.  At first I looked a bit 'cow-girl' so I threw over my grey loopy gilet.

Life

I wouldn't say I did anything to celebrate Valentine's Day I just had a normal Saturday.  We went for dinner and then we went to see Taken 3 as I've seen the previous two and really enjoyed the first one.  The third one was okay but nothing to write home about.  When at the cinema we saw the longest queue ever for Fifty Shades.  I think I will wait till it comes to Netflix thanks!

Eats

We went for dinner at La Tasca which is a really nice Spanish tapas place and I had my first paella.  Yep, bit late to the party there!  It was amazing.  Followed by warm waffles and caramel ice cream.  Perfection.

I hope you all had a good Valentine's!

Foundations Review

As I mentioned in my 'What I Bought in America' post I've bought quite a few foundations lately.  I'd say I bought them November/December last year so I feel I've used them enough to give a good review.

This is one I bought in the States because I'd heard such good things about it from other beauty bloggers and you can't buy it in the UK.  The first thing I noticed before I even bought it was the vast colour selection available.  I went for the shade soft honey but I think I'd like to get a shade darker for when I'm fake tanned.

This foundation is quite sheer but buildable if you want more coverage.  The best thing I like about it is that it stays matte for most of the day and I don't feel the need to keep powdering so this makes it perfect for work or long days where I'm running about.  It's a really good drugstore foundation and great for the price.

This is another one I bought in the States purely because it was cheaper than in the UK and they were doing an offer in Walgreens on Maybelline products.  This also has quite a good shade range and groups them in 100s for light skin, 200s for medium and 300s for dark so you can choose your shade more easily.  I went for 220 which is better for when I'm tanned so I may pick up another in 210.

The one thing I don't like about this foundation is that the bottle doesn't have a pump so you have to pour it out which can sometimes get messy.  The finish is quite dewy so may not be suitable for more oily skin types, I have normal to dry skin.  I do have to powder my t-zone but it gives such a beautiful look to my skin, like it's been airbrushed.  It's actually my favourite foundation of the moment.

This one I bought from lookfantastic.com as I'd also heard a lot of good things from other bloggers.  I think it's a fairly new foundation and has become quite popular.  It's actually targeted for those with olive skin tones and more oily skin.

They only have 5 shades at the moment, maybe they will do more once they realise how popular it is.  I got the shade 200 which is the second to lightest and that matches me perfect.  It has a matte finish so again good for long days or sweaty nightclubs!  I would definitely recommend this foundation and it retails for £12.50 so a good price also.
Do you have any foundation recommendations?  I'm a bit obsessed at the moment!

Wear

I met a friend for brunch on Sunday in Chelsea and I always love dressing up a bit when I go there as it's a part of town that is full of fashionistas and inspiring outfits.  Also, I just love an excuse to dress up!  So I went for leather pants as it was rather cold, a white shirt and blue jumper.  I then put some black wedged ankle boots on and a fur coat.  However, when I looked in the mirror I decided this was a bit too much for Sunday brunch so changed the fur coat for my leopard jacket.  I also threw on my H&M sunglasses.  Check out my instagram for outfit details and more inspiration (@wonky_lauren)

Life

After we went for brunch we went back to my friend's flat and she was telling me that recently she has been really into Pretty Little Liars.  I remember watching this a few years ago when it first came out but since then I haven't seen it on my Sky channels.  My friend has Netflix so she put on series 3 and I was literally hooked.  I think I must have sat there for about 4 hours, it was so good!  I seriously need to look into getting Netflix for this reason haha.

Eats

So I mentioned I went to brunch which if you haven't noticed happens to be my favourite meal of the day.  We went to a place called Daylesford which is a really cute farm type restaurant that serves fresh produce and has lots of healthy options to choose from.  I had green tea with poached eggs on toast and then I was feeling a bit naughty and had a chocolate brownie which was honestly the best brownie I'd tasted in my life, they had white chocolate buttons in them!

I hope you all had a good weekend.  It's so cold here in London we have snow today!
