Heartbreak Hotel at The Jetty

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of attending The Jetty in Greenwich for the production of Heartbreak Hotel.

Initially I was expecting it to be a musical on Elvis songs, however, I was proved wrong.

I took the tube to North Greenwich (The 02) and had a lovely short walk along the river to the venue.  The venue is on the end of a pier where you can sit outside and enjoy a cold drink in the sunshine.  The weather Saturday was perfect.

When I arrived, I went to “check-in” and was given a badge with my name on it.  Once inside we were told to split into two groups and were taken into different rooms of the hotel which the venue had transformed itself into.

In each of the rooms there was different scenery with different actors acting out different scenarios to do with heartbreak.  Each room took about 10-15 minutes and there were about 25 of us in there.

It ended with a finale on the roof top with everyone singing and dancing along.  We then went downstairs for drinks at the bar and sat in the cool deckchairs admiring the amazing set-up of the venue.

What I loved about this production was the intimate setting and interaction with the audience.  You really felt like you were part of it and hence the reason for the name labels so they can play along with you.

The other thing I really liked was that the scenarios were all so true.  There was something that everyone could relate to in real life and had probably experienced.

Even though it wasn’t what I was expecting I was pleasantly surprised because it was something so different.  It was a nice bit of culture and the way they had done the venue to look like a hotel was so awesome.

It’s a beautiful venue and perfect if you have good weather.  I would definitely recommend this show to anyone who is looking for something a bit different from your usual theatre production.  You can buy tickets here.

Thank you to The Jetty for inviting me.

May Re-Capped

A little bit late as we're heading into July but better late than never hey!  I didn't blog too much in May as I was away but here are links to all posts in case you missed anything ;)

What I Bought In America

Obviously I couldn't go to The States without coming back with some American goodies.  If you missed my post from my November trip you can see it >here<.  I don't think I went as mad this time but I still got enough to keep me going until my next trip!

We obviously visited the outlet malls when I was there, there are literally the best outlets I've been to ever.  Way better than the ones in New York; more choice and even cheaper! I was spying some of the number plates in the car park and people seem to come from all over America for the outlet malls in Orlando.

So after all that chat of me hyping it up I'm afraid I only bought one thing!  There were huge queues in a lot of the shops and then I came down with a headache due to consuming too much sugar (but we won't go into that) and we left early.

Anyway, the one item I did get I am very excited about.  They were cute denim overalls from Levi which I picked up for $40.  I'd been pondering over buying some for ages so I knew when I saw these I had to get them.  They are so comfy and will go with so much, I even wore them out that evening!

I'm literally obsessed with the drugstores in the US, they are so much better than ours.  AND we seem to be the only country that doesn't have Sephora - what's up with that?!  So I hit Walgreens as I always go and feel like I'm in heaven.  This time I picked up some Biore pore strips which are half the price in the US and you get twice as many in the pack, winning.  I got an Eos hand cream which I believe they have just launched.  I'm obsessed with their lip balms so I knew I had to get a hand cream.  I bought Maybelline gel liner because it's a staple, L'Oreal tinted brow gel which we don't have in the UK yet and I can report already it's amazing!  I got a Milani baked blush in Luminoso because it's another staple I didn't have and can't get in the UK, St Ives face scrub (cheaper in the US), the new NYX HD concealer and one of their lip butters in Cherry Cheesecake which I love!  I also picked up the Dr George's whitening gel because I'm still on my quest for whiter teeth :)

I also picked up a Kindle Paperwhite because I've wanted one for ages and knew they were half the price in the US.  I'm so happy with it, I can't put it down.  I've had it for less than a month and I'm on my third book already.  It's so easy to use, so lightweight, hardly ever needs charging and such good quality.

Wear | Life | Eats: Mum's Birthday and Father's Day

I had a real family filled weekend this weekend and it was actually really lovely.  I'm not the biggest 'family' person but it was nice to spend time with the people that are closest to me.

Saturday my mum, my nan, my sister and I all went to Greenwich for the day to celebrate my mum's birthday.  As the weather was a bit unpredictable (rain one minute, sun the next) I went for a layered outfit.  Faux leather pants, a white vest, open denim shirt and peep toe wedges; all unintentionally from H&M.

Sunday we chilled in the garden for Father's Day so I went for relaxed jeans and a printed vest.

Greenwich is not too far from where I live and I spent a lot of time here growing up as it's where my family are from and I forgot how much I adored the place.  I fell it love with it all over again.  I love the vintage feel it oozes and there's so much history to get lost in.  We wandered around the markets and the Cutty Sark before having a bite to eat.

The weather on Sunday was perfect; enough sun with a cool breeze so I lapped it up on our old wooden bench swing.  I miss having a garden!

There's quite a lot of restaurants to choose from in Greenwich especially South American cuisines.  However, a lot of places get booked up quickly and as we all have a love for Italian food we played it safe with good old Pizza Express.  I went for a different pizza this time which had a fried egg on top! And for dessert I tried the gluten free brownies.  I was well and truly stuffed after this and couldn't eat for the rest of the day!

On my way to my dad's on Sunday I stopped at the bakery and picked up some fresh cookies for us to enjoy.  They were so delicious; chunky and chewy just how I like it haha.  I may have a go at making some myself this weekend..

Hope you all had a good Father's Day!  Lauren xx

Healthy Vegetarian Eats, Shopping List and Websites

With summer officially starting tomorrow I am well and truly back on the healthy eating and exercise wagon.  For me, the best way to eat healthy is to find a few recipes each week that I want to try, make a list of all the ingredients I need and then stick to that list when I go shopping.  That way, I have everything I need for the week and won't risk any other trips to the supermarket picking up bad food!

Here are a few of my favourite vegetarian dishes:

No noodle vegetable stir fry with halloumi
Mushroom and spinach omelette
Quorn sausage casserole with sweet peppers and tomatoes
Falafel with brown rice and hummus
Tofu courgetti and pesto
Sweet potato with low fat cottage cheese
Quorn chicken fillet with broccoli and green beans
Chick pea and mushroom curry

Here is a basic shopping list I regularly use:

Fat free greek yoghurt
Almond milk
Brown rice
Sweet potatoes

Here are my favourite healthy eating recipe websites:

Honestly Healthy
Hemsley and Hemsley
Deliciously Ella

I hope you found this useful!  Lauren xx

Summer Holiday Packing Guide: Florida

The weather in Florida is generally hot all year round but it gets especially hot during the summer months.  I went at the end of May and it was already hot enough for my British blood.  I traveled around Florida a bit (which you can see here) and I found each city had different dress styles.  Miami was more glamorous whereas Orlando and St Augustine are pretty laid back and casual.  For that reason I wore more playsuits and maxi dresses in Miami with wedges and jewellery but in Orlando and St Augustine I stuck to shorts, t-shirts and casual summer dresses.

Where are you off to this summer?

Gift Guide: Father's Day

Father's Day is this Sunday in both the UK and the US (and probably the rest of the world I'm guessing?) so I thought I would put together a gift guide of ideas.  I'm generally rubbish at choosing what to buy so I love things like this.  This year I was actually organised, I bought my dad's present last week which was some shorts and a t-shirt for summer. Rather boring but he's lost some weight recently so he could do with some new threads!

Friday Favourites

Ahh Friday, my favourite day of the week.  Here's what I've been loving recently..

Check out my photo diary and top ten here and here.

Highlighted Hair

I had some highlights pulled through my hair about a month ago and I love them, I want to add some more!

I've always loved tofu but I've never really known how to cook it which sounds really dumb cos it's actually super easy.  Also, I find it hard to find in the supermarkets in the UK, it's always hidden somewhere so I often give up and buy something else.  These past two weeks I've been eating it non stop and it's a great source of iron for us vegetarians!

Country Music

It never really made a break through here in the UK.  We love a bit of Dolly but other than that we're clueless.  On my recent trip to the US (did I mention I'd been to Florida?!) I felt totally inspired by their country radio stations and will be listening to it more often!

The Lie by C.L.Taylor

I just finished reading the above book and it was so gripping I finished it in record time.  I also read her previous book The Accident but this one was better.  I would definitely recommend which brings me onto my next favourite..

Amazon Kindle

I bought a Kindle whilst in the US and I'm so pleased with it.  It's made my bag so much lighter than carrying a big heavy book around with me and I love that you can store all your books in one place so when you finish one you have another lined up.  I'm just about the start Stranger Child, I hope it's good!

Summer in London

This week has finally felt like summer and I really hope it stays!  Coming back from the sunshine in Florida was depressing enough.

My Bunnies - Coco and Panda

They're always a favourite of mine but I wanted to give them a special shout out this week because I had to take them to the vet to have their claws clipped and they were so scared as they barely go out the flat.  They were very well behaved though.

Happy Friday!

What's In My Carry On?

I did a 'what's in my handbag' post here so carrying on the trend and with summer holidays coming up I thought I'd share what I took on my recent trip.

Firstly I just wanna say I am not a light packer.  I always squash as much as I can in my hand luggage especially for long haul flights.  I like to take my denim backpack as it helps distribute the weight on my shoulders and leaves my hands free.

I got this backpack from Primark about a year ago but I think they still have them in.

So, inside I carry my travel wallet which is this beautiful grey blue colour from Hermes. Inside I have my passport, travel documents and currency.  I then have my other purse with my cards and money etc.

After that I have my big headphones, little spare headphones, iPod (in case my phone dies although I notice you can now charge phones on most planes), Kindle and magazines.  I'm not always a fan of watching the in-flight entertainment and would rather read or listen to my music.

As well as that I like to take a lip balm and face moisturiser as my skin gets so dry on flights.  I also take some mascara to touch up before I land.

I'll normally have a pen thrown in there somewhere and a couple pairs of sunglasses as I don't like to put them in my case.  I also have to make room for my camera as again I don't like it in my main luggage.

For comfort I like to bring my neck pillow which is this fluffy cream one I recently got in Primark.  I also have a scarf and cardigan as I normally get cold with the AC.

And lastly I pack some biscuits in case I get hungry haha.  You are allowed to bring food in your hand luggage from the UK it's just liquids that aren't allowed.  I only realised that recently!

So yeah, I pack a lot haha.  What do you like to bring?

Wear | Life | Eats

I'd been umming and ahhing over buying a pair of dungaree overalls for literally the past year but I just couldn't decide whether I thought they would suit me or just make me look like my 12 year old self..  I eventually decided to buy a pair for my trip to Florida as I thought they'd be cute in the hot weather with a t-shirt or crop top and then I couldn't find a pair anywhere!  Typical.  Anyway, whilst I was in Orlando I visited the outlet mall and what do you know, I found the perfect pair in Levi for only $40!  I then was so excited I proceeded to wear them out that night to the Cheesecake Factory ha.

Madewell (link)

Nothing exciting has been going on except my Florida trip which I have already written my last two posts on.  I was debating whether to do a WLE's Florida edition but thought you might be bored with my Florida posts already so maybe I'll save that one for next week?!

Oh I took Coco and Panda to the vet today to have their claws clipped and they were not loving it one bit!

I'm trying to get back into a healthy eating regime after all the junk I consumed in the States!  This week I've been making stir fries and omelettes for a balanced diet as I think that's important.  My favourite dish was a broccoli and tofu stir fry which are two of my favourite things to eat AND did you know they are both great sources of iron?  I actually only learnt that this week ha.  I am thinking of posting some healthy recipes on here but I will try them out first ;)

Hope you had a good week.  Lauren xx
