Thursday Ten: Where I Shop

Fashion is one of my biggest passions.  Fashion and writing which is exactly why I decided to start a blog.  I've never been a huge designer lover but love high street brands and bagging a bargain.  The only thing I really invest a lot of money in is handbags and maybe the odd pair of shoes.  So here are my favourite places to shop in store and online.

1.  ASOS

Who doesn't love this website?  They literally cater for all needs.  They have their own brand which I love and other brands giving you so much variety.  They have the best sales and give student discount.

2.  Topshop

This store has been a love of mine since I was in my teens and I can still remember getting my pay packet from my Saturday job when I was at school and literally spending all my wages here.  Their sales can be a bit of a jumble but they also give student discount.

This is probably my favourite online shopping website.  I went through a phase of making an order every single payday and am now friends with the courier lady haha.  They are so affordable and always have the latest trends.  I especially like to holiday shop here.  They do lots of special offers, discount codes and student discount.

4.  Sephora

I only get to shop here when I'm in the US as we don't have stores in the UK anymore (seriously, why would you get rid?!) but we can order online for a £10 shipping fee.  This shop is just make-up heaven.

5.  Amazon

Amazon is my go-to place for any little odd bits and pieces I need.  I used to order a lot of books from them but now I have my Kindle so I download e-books instead.  They're also great for electrical.  They're just one of those places where you're like "oh Amazon will have it" and they do.

I can honestly say I have probably visited EVERY store in NYC.  When I first visited New York in 2007 I became obsessed and every time I went back I'd spend about $100.  It's basically the US version of Primark.  Then in 2013 they decided to come to Blighty and all my dreams were answered.

7.  HM

I've been shopping in this store since I was little.  My mum bought a lot of our children's clothes from here and I just continued to shop into my adult years.  It's such a great shop for basics and I also really love their gym wear.

8.  Zara

Zara was another one I loved back when I was at school.  They do great jeans that fit me well as I'm quite tall and I find they make a lot of their clothes for tall people?  They also do great work attire.

Still classed as a high street brand but a little more pricey.  However, if you visit during sale time (now) you can be sure to grab a bargain.  Their clothes are made so well and will last so even if it's not sale time sometimes it's worth the investment.  They also offer student discount which helps!

This has to be my favourite department store and where I'll go for my designer handbags. They also have a great range of make-up counters and I could literally spend hours here. They've recently jumped on the Black Friday bandwagon and offer great discounts during this time.

Where do you like to shop?

St Moriz Self Tan Review

I'm quite late to the party here but I had quite a few other self tanners I wanted to use up before making room for this one.  So, can we talk about it?  This self tanner is a game changer and I can't get enough!  I'm actually kinda annoyed I waited so long to try it but there you go.  I've been using it for a couple of months now so here is my honest opinion of the product.

I purchased it from Wilko for £3 so already I knew I couldn't go wrong, even if it turned out to be rubbish and I had to throw it straight in the bin.  I went for the mousse formula in the shade dark.  I used a mitt to apply it and just one pump at a time.

It's really easy to rub in and has a hint of colour so you can see where you're applying it.  I do find it dries quite quickly so you have to work fast but that isn't really a problem just work with smaller sections at a time.  It takes about 2 hours to fully develop and the dark one gives you a real deep tan but without looking orange.

I did try it on my face but as you have to work so quickly I found it went a bit patchy so I don't use it on my face anymore.  Again, this is fine because I actually prefer not to fake tan my face anyway as it's not great for the skin.

The one I use is an instant tanner so I just apply it and go, no need to shower off any excess.

The reason I love this tan so much is because it's super affordable, gives a beautiful nature colour and dries so fast there's no waiting around, stickiness or worry of the colour transferring to your clothes.  I would highly recommend it.  It's available at Boots and Amazon too.

Have you ever tried St Moriz?

How To Make Your Mornings Brighter

Recently I've been feeling a bit 'meh' when waking up, really not wanting to get out of bed, feeling tired and having to really force myself up so I decided to change up my routine a bit.  Here's what I found helps:

Green Tea or Berocca

I know most people love a coffee in the morning but I've never been a fan.  A green tea or water with Berocca does it for me.  It gives me an energy boost without the lull later on or a headache.  I actually really like the taste of green tea but if you don't you can get flavoured varieties too just watch the sugar content!

I have a radio alarm clocks that plays Radio 1 (Nick Grimshaw) every morning to wake me up and if a good song is playing it instantly puts me in a better mood and sometimes I find myself jumping up and having a little dance (cos I'm weird like that) so switch on the radio or your laptop and get in the groove!

I always find it easier to get up in the summer than the winter so opening the blinds can really lift your mood or leave them open the night before like I do.  Plus, sunlight boosts your body's level of serotonin which is your happy hormone and it has been proven that sunlight can actually reduce depression so go get you some sunshine!

I LOVE a good stretch in the mornings.  Honestly, try it, it feels so good!  You can even do it whilst you're still lying in bed.  Just move yourself around, twisting your torso and pulling your limbs from side to side.  This will instantly make you feel more awake and ready for the day.  Just be careful not to over stretch!

I think this goes without saying but having a shower and the feeling of the water hitting your body can really wake you up and make you feel good.  If you don't have time to shower in the mornings and prefer to do it in the evenings, you can always just splash your face with cold water instead.

Cuddling your loved one, children, pets, post man, anyone!  Just taking a few minutes to hug it out and forget the stress of the day ahead will brighten your mood.

How do you brighten your mornings?

The Audrey Hepburn Exhibition

This weekend I had the privilege of attending a private blogger's viewing of the Audrey Hepburn Exhibition that is currently on display at The National Portrait Gallery in London.

Audrey Hepburn has been an icon of mine and many other woman for many years so I was extremely excited when I received this invitation.

When I arrived I was meeted and greeted before being shown into a room where we had a curator give a short talk on the exhibition and the life of Audrey Hepburn.

The exhibition celebrates 65 years since Audrey Hepburn first performed at London 's West End nightclub Ciro's.  From here she excelled into the Hollywood Legend that we all know and love but the fame, glamour and actress lifestyle wasn't all that defined her.  She was a fascinating woman that lead an extraordinary life.

She did a lot of missionary work for UNICEF and after she was done with Hollywood she dedicated her life to it.

She was without doubt a truly talented person and was fluent in 6 languages!  Her most famous work and for what most people remember her by is her leading role in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

After the talk we got to look around the gallery and see some beautiful snapshots of Audrey Hepburn in action.  They also had some photos from her family collection that had not been seen before.

I learnt so much more about this iconic lady and now love her so much more!

If you get the chance to see this exhibition I would highly recommend it.  It's on until 18 October and you can book tickets here.

Thank you so much to The National Portrait Gallery for inviting me to this amazing exhibition!

Thursday Ten: Things I Would Tell My Teenage Self

To be fair, I had some pretty good teenage years.  I had a great group of friends, went to a pretty decent school, never got bullied and due to my super dry skin never suffered any terrible outbreaks of acne.  HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I totally escaped the teenage angst so here's what I would tell myself if I could go back in time.

1.  You will discover fake tan and all your pale skin days will be over.

2.  You will learn to accept your freckles and embrace them.  They are kisses from the sun as nan would say!

3.  Don't stress over algebra.  No-one gets it.  Not even the teachers.  And you will never ever use it again.

4.  Don't worry about leaving school and all your friends behind.  In a few years we will have Facebook and you can stalk people until your heart's content!

5.  Enjoy your school days because they really are the best days of your life.  Once you start working there's no going back.

6.  You will learn how to apply make-up properly and not look like a clown.

7.  GHDs will be invented and your hair will thank you forever.

8.  Smoking is not cool so don't stress about trying to fit in because in 10 years from now you will be happy you didn't take up that bad habit.  And so will your bank balance.  And your health.

9.  It's not too long until you turn 18 which means alcohol and clubs.  Pace yourself.

10.  The biggest challenge in life is trying to be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else.  Never change who you are so that others will like you, just be yourself and the right people will love you for being you.  And as Oscar Wilde said "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken".

What would you tell your teenage self?

Inside My Make-Up Bag

Following on from my 'What's in my handbag' and 'What's in my carry on' posts I thought I would share the contents of my make-up bag as I always love having a snoop in other peoples!

Firstly, I'll be honest, I don't generally carry a make-up bag everywhere with me.  I generally only throw mascara and a lip balm in my bag most of the time but if I'm going out after work or staying somewhere over night then I will pack a make-up bag.

Starting with the bag itself I have this beautiful one from Aspinal of London which my mum bought me and it matches the Marylebone tote that I have.  It's black leather with purple suede inside which pops out so you can clean it.  It also comes with a little mirror.

So what's inside?  If I'm staying overnight then I'm take my foundation, if I'm going straight from work I won't bother but just touch up with concealer.  I'll then have my trusty powder, bronzer and blush.  As for eyes I like to always have a mascara and eyeliner with me either black or brown.  I will then take one of the Maybelline 24hr colour pots as I find them really good for a wash of colour or as a base.  I'm really into the L'oreal pressed pigments at the moment too especially the iced latte one.  Then I'll choose a lipstick or gloss and maybe a highlighter if I can fit one in, I love anything by The Balm.  For brushes I'll usually have a big powder brush, blush brush and then a blending brush for my eyes.

And that's about as much as I can fit in!  I do like to moisturiser before I apply my make-up but I'll usually put that in my toiletries bag if I'm staying somewhere so maybe I'll do a post on that later to complete this 'bag' series.

What's inside your make-up bag?

Wear | Life | Eats: Feeling Vintage

This weekend I went back in time and got all vintage and retro.  I love anything old fashioned with a bit of history and seeing how things have evolved over the years.

When my mum was about 21 she treated herself to not one but TWO Burberry macs, lucky her!  She told me the story of how her and her mum rushed over to Harrods early one Saturday to purchase these beautiful macs with her first pay cheque.  She must have been determined to get her money's worth because she still has them now.  Well, I have them ;)

So here is me styling the black one with some ripped jeans and a white crop top.  The style has changed slightly over the years and I think I would prefer it a little shorter but I love it all the same and will cherish it FOREVER haha.

There was a vintage festival going on this weekend so a friend and I went along to check it out.  They had bands and a DJ playing music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.  They also had a huge collection of vintage cars and motorbikes including Herbie which I was very excited about (okay not the real Herbie but still)!

They had food trucks selling an array of British delicacies, a tent playing rock n roll with a dance floor and dancers doing the jive (or was it the hop??) and lots of activities for children such as a bouncy castle.  They also had stalls selling vintage clothes and music etc.  All in all it was a really lovely day, the weather was so hot and everyone was enjoying themselves.

We had a charity day at work on Friday with a bake sale, Pimms and other lovely food people had offered to cook in order to raise money for Whitechapel Mission.  Whitechapel Mission is a charity that works with the homeless and provides food and shelter for them. For more information or to donate visit their page here.

What did you get up to this weekend?

My Fitness Regime

I could have sworn I'd done a fitness regime post before because I was going to title this 'My Fitness Regime: UPDATED', however, I can't find anything anywhere so I guess this is my first one!

Anyway, in that case, I better give you a bit of background on my fitness journey.  I'm a trained dancer and went to stage school from about the age of 3 all the way until I was 18.  I took GCSE and A-Level dance and have passed every level of ISTD ballet, tap, modern & jazz.

After leaving school I took up gym and starting going to classes to keep my fitness levels up.  I did lots of cardio and a few pilates and yoga classes to keep my muscle stretched and a good posture.  I always shied away from weights as I thought they would make me bulky and butch.

However, this year I did some research into the best forms of exercise and what to eat for my body type and have realised that actually weight exercises are really important.  By doing weights we will not only tone up but will lose weight easier/maintain a healthy weight because you have more muscle.

So now I do 6 classes a week which consist of:

I get a real mixture in there and have noticed a difference in my figure.  I have toned up but without getting bulky as I don't lift massive weights.  I also have a lot more energy and flexibility which is exactly what I want to get from my workouts.

Every 6 months or so I generally change up my workout routine but this is what's working for me at the moment along with a diet of carbs and protein.  I have also tried to cut down on sugar.

Here are my favourite websites on fitness:

Shop: Red, White & Blue/4th of July

We don't celebrate 4th of July in the UK but red, white and blue is one of my favourite colour combinations to wear.  I love navy and white together for a crisp classic look and then the pop of red for some extra vibrance and because it's my most loved colour to wear!

Here is some inspiration to get you in the mood:
