Thursday Ten: Thoughts We Have Before Going On A Date

Errr so this is my second post on dating in the last week, not sure what that means but anyway!  I thought it would be fun to share the silly, nerve wracking thoughts we get before going on a hot date.

1.  What am I going to wear??!

2.  Must.  Shave.  Everything.

3.  Hair up?  Hair down?

4.  I have nothing to wear!

5.  Simple make-up?  Dramatic make-up?

6.  Checking the mirror about 100 times before realising you're going to be late!

7.  Should I text him to make sure we're still on for tonight or play it cool?

8.  What if I don't hear from him??

9.  What should I talk about?

10.  Heels?  No heels?  How tall is he again?!

11.  Should I drink?  If so, how many without getting silly drunk and embarassing myself?

12.  And breatheeeeeeeeeeeeee.

So I added a couple of extra ones just because there are actually so many thoughts that run through my head before a date, I didn't realise!  I wonder if guys do this too?  Nahhhh.

What do you think about before going on a date?

Friday Favourites

Friday AND Payday.  The best day of the month if you ask me.  Here's what I've been loving this past fortnight..

Poached Eggs

I think I mentioned scrambled eggs a few Fridays ago but now I've moved onto poached eggs.  To be honest, any variety of an egg is good with me but I'll be honest, I'd never cooked poached eggs before!  So I gave it a little go the other week and now I'm hooked. It's my go-to post workout meal at the moment.

Galaxy's Salted Caramel

I discovered this in Tesco shortly after Easter and felt a little guilty purchasing it after devouring so many chocolate eggs but I just couldn't resist!  Salted caramel is my favourite and I wasn't really expecting it to taste much different to the regular caramel one they have but oh my it's a lot richer, I couldn't even finish the whole bar (and yes normally I can ;)).

Shay Mitchell

I mentioned in a previous post that I'd been loving Pretty Little Liars but I wasn't too fussed about the girls and their style, it was more the storyline that had me hooked. Then I stumbled across Shay Mitchell on instagram and she's officially my new girl crush.  The style, the hair, the sunglasses collection.  She's got it all.

Following on from Shay Mitchell is this brand of sunglasses that she has a collection with. At first I didn't bother to look them up as I thought they'd be another over priced brand that I couldn't justify but then I gave in and was surprised to see that most of their range is around $50 (Australian dollars) which is about £25 but they look so much more!  I definitely think I'll be purchasing a pair for summer.  I kinda want some clear ones.

Gone Girl

I know I'm waaaay too late to the party here but I just started reading the book as I really want to see the film but won't until I've read the book first!  I'm about a third of the way in and it's just starting to get good.  I kinda of found that it dragged a bit in the beginning?  Apparently the film isn't as good as the book which is generally the case but I'm excited to see it anyway.

Made in Chelsea

It's back!  Which timed in quite nicely with Taking New York finishing.  I'm not sure what I make of it yet as I've only seen one episode.  There's a lot of new faces.  I'm not too keen in Spencer's girlfriend, she's not a girl's girl at all.  I must admit I follow her on Insta though bcos her body is amazeballs!  I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the series shapes up.

The V&A

I visited the Victoria and Albert Museum the other week (post here) for the first time and can't believe I've never been here before.  It's such a beautiful museum.  I saw the Alexander McQueen exhibition which you can check out more in my other post.  I love the huge shop they have which just has everything in it and not like your usual boring museum shop full of postcards and the like.  But what I liked most was the grounds outside.  It's so pretty and I'm so jealous of my friend who works there and gets to spend her lunchbreaks sitting outside.  You should definitely check this museum out if you're looking for something to do in London.

Drinking More Water

I've always been guilty of not drinking enough water but to be honest I think most of us are?  I used to always take a little bottle with me to work but recently I've been taking a larger bottle and now drinking twice as much as I was.  I was starting to get headaches and I think it was the lack of water. It's so important for our bodies to keep hydrated, especially with the warmer weather coming.  Okay, lecture over.

Cats

No, not the musical although I do love that too.  I've got my mum's cats staying with me at the moment and they are so cute.  They crave attention but sometimes it's nice bcos they want to cuddle up with you and be petted.  They've been sleeping on the end of my bed.  Okay, now I sound like the crazy cat woman haha.  I do love them though but bunnies are less hassle!

Make-up

Check out my last post (here) to see my current make-up favourites!

Have a good weekend.

Make-up Favourites

I went a bit make-up crazy about 4-5 months ago and splurged on lots of new products so after having a good few months of using them I thought I'd give you the lowdown on my faves.

Primer

I think I'm yet to find a really good primer that I like.  I've tried the Benefit Porefessional but I can't say I noticed a huge difference.  I'm currently using Arbonne's primer but it sometimes makes my skin a bit oily.  I'm keen to try one of the Smashbox primers as I've heard good stuff about them.  At the moment I just skip primer and use a moisturiser instead, is that really bad?

Brushes/Sponges

I really like the Real Techniques brand and have a lot of their products.  They're affordable but work really well.  I've also recently tried Zoeva for some of the small eye brushes and they're good too.  I'd like to try Sigma but they're quite hard to get hold of in the UK.

Foundation

Ahh this is a really hard one.  I'm always swapping it up and going through different 'favourites' but if I had to pick right now it would be a toss up between Covergirl 3in1 and EX1.  They're both super affordable and I really like the finish of them.  For me it's not so important to get full coverage but rather to have a flawless finish and that's what you get expect from these foundations.

Concealer

Mac prolong wear.  It's my ride or die and I'm not sure I'll ever find one as good as this. Unlike my foundations I like my concealers to be full coverage as I get quite bad dark circles that I need covering.  If I had to pick a best drugstore concealer I would say Collection Lasting Perfection.

Bronzer

Over Christmas I managed to get hold of the holiday collection laguna by Nars.  This is probably my favourite product that I purchased because not only did it come in a super cute compact with a large mirror but it also has a mini ita brush inside.  Winning!

Blush

I've never been a massive fan of blushers.  I'll wear one but I don't get overly excited by them.  I recently purchased gingerly by Mac which is a really nice rusty sort of colour. Great for winter but I want to get more of a coral colour for summer now.  Any recommendations?

Date Night Outfit Ideas

Choosing what to wear on a date can be a big deal.  Whether it's a first date or a long term relationship you still want to dress up, look your best and like you've made an effort. Here are some scenarios with suggestions of what I would wear.

First Date

First dates can be so nerve racking and if it's only the second time of meeting this person (or maybe even the first if you met online) then you want to make a good impression.  For me, I don't like to look too overdressed.  I like to look effortless but without looking scruffy and most importantly I want to be comfortable because if I'm comfortable in myself and how I look then this gives me confidence.

I would keep it simple with skinny jeans, a cami and a blazer.  If you're short you could add a pair of heels but if you're tall like me then flats or ankle boots with a small heel is best.

Casual Date: Bar/Cinema

Again I would probably go with skinny jeans with a nice top or jumper depending on the weather. You could add a leather jacket and some ankle boots to give it some edge.

Fancy Date: Restaurant/Theatre

In this situation I may wear a nice skirt with a plain top or vest so you don't look too overdone or maybe a cute dress.  You could then add a nice pair of heels and some pretty jewellery.

Daytime Date: Beach/Park

You want to go a bit more casual if it's daytime but something that's appropriate and comfortable for sitting down outside.  Shorts or a playsuit would be perfect for this.  I absolutely love playsuits as you can dress them up and down.  I would then team them with pumps or sandals.

Wear | Life | Eats: Alexander McQueen Exhibition

This weekend I finally got myself some very sought after tickets to the amazing Alexander McQueen exhibition - Savage Beauty - showcasing at The Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington, London and I was not to be disappointed!

Wear

Obviously being a fashion event I wanted to dress a little more edgier but at the same time I was going straight from work so was slightly restricted as I still needed to look smart and professional.  I decided to go for a shirt with tailored shorts to keep it smart but the shirt had a rather colourful pattern to show the edgier side.  I also added a pop of colour with blue suede shoes!

Life

I honestly, hand on heart, can say this is one of the best exhibitions I've ever been to.  I really felt it in my soul which I know sounds pretty deep but if you see the exhibition you'll know what I mean.  The V&A have really gone to town to make this exhibition shine.  It's quite dark, has a slightly spooky feel which I love.  I also loved the quotes they have written on the walls to bring you closer to the man that was Lee Alexander McQueen.

Eats

After the exhibition we wanted to go for some dinner and there was a lovely little square nearby catering all sorts of cuisines.  We decided to go for Spanish and spoiled ourselves with small tapas plates.  I went for flatbread with fresh tomatoes and olive oil and of course my favourite, Spanish tortilla (omelette)!  It was so yummy and as the weather was nice we even sat outside, alfresco style!

I hope you had a good weekend.

Friday Favourites

This has been one hell of a week and I cannot wait to let off some steam this weekend! But aside from things I haven't been loving this week, here are a few of the things I do love:

Fake tan

As you'll see in my last post (here) I have jumped on that fake tan bandwagon now that the summer is showing it's friendly face.  Check out the post to see my top faves!

Sunshine

I love a bit of sunshine any time of the year but living in London we only really get it for about 3 months so I am dead excited for summer and my upcoming trip to Florida!

Face Oil

My skin was super dry over the winter months so to replenish it I was using a lot of facial oil products.  I have a cleanser from the Body Shop I use to remove my make-up and an all over oil to put on after exfoliating and it's worked wonders.

Taking New York

Sorry but this is the new Made in Chelsea for me.  I'm obsessed and can't get enough.  I really hope they make another series but if you didn't see the first one you can watch it on catch up E4.

Nude Lips

With my new tanned skin I'm hoping to get away with more nude lipsticks.  When I wear them in the winter they just seem to match my foundation and look like I have no lips!  I recently bought the lip lacquer from Rimmel in the shade nude eclipse and I love it.

Time of Our Lives by Pitbull

This song is my jam the last few weeks.  It really gets me in a summery mood and ready to party!

Baking

Okay so I baked one thing; a loaf of banana bread last weekend but I was so surprised how well it turned out that I might actually give baking a go more often!

Happy Friday everyone!

Favourite Fake Tans: Revisited

Summer is nearly here!!  Yesterday when I left work it was 20 degrees in London, the sun was shining and the sky was blue.  So with summer on it's way I need to grab me some fake tan and put some colour on my pasty body.  Here are the fake tans I'm loving this year.

This has finally launched in the UK and can be bought in Superdrug for about £15.  I've always envied the Aussie girls not just because of their toned bods but because of the gorgeous tan they're always sporting.  Now we can get in right here in the UK and as sad as it is, I am very excited about this!

This has always been a favourite of mine.  I find it quite pricey so won't use it all the time, only for special occasions but I really like the gradual Everyday tan they have which comes out like a moisturiser.  I especially like to take this on holiday with me to top up my tan and keep my skin moisturised after a day in the sun.

I've been using this for a few years now, it's just a good, cheap instant tan that does exactly what it says on the package.  I get through quite a lot of bottles as I like it for every day when I go to work and just want a bit of colour in the summer months and I don't mind having to re-purchase it a lot as it's so affordable and doesn't streak at all.

I've always seen this in cheaper shops like Savers and Wilko but I'm always scared with cheap fake tans in case they streak but I've heard so many good things about this one.  I am yet to try it myself as I still have a bit of my Tan Truth left but for £3 a bottle I think I will buy the whole range and see what I like best (mousse, spray or lotion).  I will let you know!

Before and After using Superdrug Solait

What are your favourite fake tans?  I'm always on the hunt for a new one!

Thursday Ten: Single Girl Problems

I spent about 7 years being single so I could probably write a whole book on this but here are my top ten...

1. Everyone around you seems to be settling down and you're worried you're going to be left on the shelf.  I think this was the main one for me but patience is key and I know it's really cliche but as soon as you stop looking you will find!  So don't stress, just enjoy the time being single.

2.  You want to go out and meet guys but all your friends are in relationships.  Just get them to introduce you to their boyfriend's friends instead.

3.  Having a really great guy friend who likes you a bit more than a friend but you just don't see him that way.

4.  Having no plus one to weddings.  Sometimes can be a reminder of your singleness and make you feel alone but turn it around and see the positive that sometimes weddings are great ways to meet people!

5.  No couple holiday.  Holidays with friends are great but it can be completely different to going away as a couple and have a romantic get away.

6.  Sleeping alone.  Make the most of it I say.  Double bed to yourself = sleeping like a starfish!

7.  Having to pay for everything yourself.  Not that you should date someone just for their money but sometimes it is nice to be spoiled, treated and have your dinner paid for.

8.  Meeting someone online and they look different to their photo.  Awkward.

9.  Means girls that have lovely boyfriends.  Just unfair.

10.  Feeling pressure from your family about settling down and starting a family.  This is the 21st century most girls want a career first.

I hope this post wasn't depressing!  It's just meant to be a bit of fun.  For every single girl problem there is a single girl perk, it just doesn't feel like it sometimes.  Just remember, always be yourself and never rush a good thing :)
