The Bright Eyeshadow Summer Trend

When I think of summer fashion I always think of pops of colour and brightness.  Makeup is no different.  A bright lip looks gorgeous with a tan or pops of colour on the eyelids is so cute with freckles and glowy skin.  One of the most popular eyeshadow palettes for creating these kinds of look is the Urban Decay Vice palette.  However, this can be pricey and so I looked to the high street for a similar alternative.

This one by Technic I picked up on Amazon for around £10.  It has 12 colours from brights to bronzes.  All perfect for creating a summery look.  This is what I came up with.

I went for blue and purples on the lid with a pinky nude lip.

Do you like the bright eyeshadow trend?

My Favourite Summer Co-Ords

This summer it’s all about coordinating.  I’ve seen so much inspiration in the media, online and on the catwalks.  I think what I love most about this trend is that you don’t have to try too hard.  You already have the top and bottoms so there’s no need to try and find something to match, just accessorise and go!

Here are some of my favourites I found via Pinterest.

How To Be More Plastic Free

Single use plastic is a huge problem for the environment and not to mention killing our sea life.  So much so that lots of companies are now trying to reduce their use of plastic such as doing away with plastic straws and charging for using plastic carrier bags.  Here are a few ways that you yourself can do your bit to live a plastic free life.

  1. Bring your own reusable water bottle/coffee cup preferably metal.  Can you imagine how much plastic waste comes from people that buy water bottles every single day?!  Just buy yourself a reusable bottle, there are so many places that sell them and either fill it up at home or when buying coffee out ask them to use your cup instead.

  2. Shop savvy.  When I'm at the supermarket I try to pick up fruit and veg with the less amount of plastic packaging.  This can prove quite difficult sometimes but a lot of shops are getting better.

  3. When you have leftovers rather than putting them on a plate with some plastic cling film, use a reusable tupperware box, metal bento box or even use tin foil which is at least recyclable.

  4. Use useable shopping bags when you go shopping.  This is one I am probably best at because it's so easy to just throw a bag in when you go shopping and not have to keep buying new ones.

  5. Stop buying ready meals.  They're not good for you anyway because of the amount of sodium most of them contain but they are the biggest culprits at wasting plastic.

  6. Use bars of soap instead of plastic bottles.  This is obviously harder because we are so used to using plastic bottles of soap, shampoo etc but if we can try to cut down on it then we are taking a step in the right direction.

How will you do your bit to go plastic free?

Should I Have Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers have been having a moment the last few years and I think a lot of us have posed the question "Should I get my lips done?".

I don't think there's a wrong or right answer here.  If you feel like you want a little extra plumpness or that you would feel more confident having bigger lips or if you really don't like your lips the way they are or even if you don't like the shape of your lips and want a bit of filler to even them out.  You do you.

I don't have lip fillers myself (you can probably tell!) but that's not to say I have ruled it out completely.  I think like a lot of us we're scared it will go wrong or that the swelling will last for ages and everyone will be able to tell.  If I had them done I would just start with a small bit and work from there until I was happy.

I would want people to be able to notice a little because what's the point in having them done if they look no different but I wouldn't want it to be too obvious.  It's also quite an expensive procedure if you want them done correctly.  Please make sure you do your research if you are thinking of getting them and go to somewhere reputable that is licensed to carry out this procedure.

What do you think about lip fillers?

What To Do In London This July

When the sun is shining (as it is right now) there's no better place to be than London.  Seriously.  The City has it all and the warm weather is just an added bonus.

So I've rounded up all the great things that are happening here in the capital this month and things I am hoping to tick off my bucket list:

1. The World Cup Final - this takes place on Sunday 15 July and will be showing in most pubs around the UK, let alone London.  Some pubs even have screens outside so you get to enjoy the warm weather whilst cheering on your country.  C'mon England!

2. Wimbledon - the famous tennis tournament kicked off this week for a whole 2 weeks.  If you weren't able to get tickets or can't afford the hefty fee, you can always pay up to £25 to have a walk around the grounds and enjoy the atmosphere [and sunshine] from there.

3. Pride - I went to this in London 2 years ago and it was so much fun!  Everyone is in such a good mood, the parade was awesome, great music, dancing and drinking.  Head on down to Charing Cross on 07 July!

4. Music Festivals - Lovebox and British Summer Time amongst a bunch of others.  Festival season is in full swing in London this month.

5. Outdoor Cinema - watch a movie on a big screen in Hyde Park or even on the Thames!  I can't believe I still haven't attended one of these.  They show everything from old classics to new releases.  Bring a blanket and a picnic and you're set.

6. National Dim Sum Week - I. LOVE. DIM SUM.  And this week happens to be dim sum week so if you love it as much as I do get yourself down to China Town sharpish!

7. Chiswick House Summer Party - this idea sounds really cute and more for the people that don't like a crazy party but more of a sophistiscated dinner.  With music, food and a few drinks this could be like something straight of a Downton Abbey on 07 July.

8. Peckham Salvage Yard - this weekend Peckham are hosting a vintage market sale.  Nab yourself a bargain and you might even bump into Delboy!

9. Leyton Carnival - if you can't wait until next month for Notting Hill Carnival then Leyton in East London has you sorted.  Bringing a taste of the Caribbean on 08 July.

10. The Making of Harry Potter (Behind The Seams) - for the hardcore HP fans there is an exhibition taking place in Abbots Langley between 07 and 22 July that shows you all about the costume design exclusive from the costume department at Warner Bros Studios.

11. Ride London - between the 28 and 29 July over 100,000 people will be riding 8 miles through London.  Even if you're not an avid rider like myself you can still go along and watch somewhere on route.  I've seen them go past before and it's quite incredible!

What do you think you'll be up to this month?

Beach Libraries

I was scrolling through Twitter the other day and saw a picture of a library... on a beach..?  So after further research I discovered this was in fact a thing.  This makes me very excited indeed because if there's anything more that I love than sitting and reading a good book, it's sitting and reading a good book on the beach!

I feel like libraries are so underrated now too.  Going to the library was one of my favourite things to do as a kid and I honestly feel that's where my love of reading, and possibly writing, started.  It's such an affordable way to keep up with the latest novels too and a great thing to get kids into.

Santa Monica, LA

The beach library first started in Bulgaria about 5 years ago.  It was brilliant because there's nothing more annoying than being on holiday and finishing your book and then being like.. now what do I do?!  So that's where the crazy idea of a beach library was born.

Now other resorts around the world have joined in on the trend including Dubai, India and Belgium.  I think this is such an awesome idea and can't wait to seek them out on my future travels.  In fact I am off to Belgium next month!  I would also like to see some popping up along the South Coast in England.  Brighton is one of my favourite places to visit and I think a beach library would fit in perfectly there.

Bondi Beach, Sydney

What are your thoughts on beach libraries?

Foreo Luna Mini Review

At Christmas, which seems like aaaaaagesss ago now, I decided to treat myself to the Foreo Luna Mini from my Christmas bonus.  I'd wanted one for ages but just never took the plunge as they are quite pricey.  I think I actually bought it in the Black Friday sale at the end of November with about 20% off.

They have a good selection of fun colours and I went for the turquoise green one.  They also do different types depending on your skin.  I just went for the regular one for normal skin types.

The reason I chose the Foreo Luna over one of the cleansing brushes is because it is made of silicon and so this makes it a lot more hygienic and easier to clean.  It is also rechargeable and lasts up to 300 uses.  I like that it tells you after 30 seconds when you need to move onto a different area of the face and it does this 4 times.  I do each cheek, nose and chin and then forehead.

I love how gentle it is on the skin but yet still goes deep and gives you a smooth, clean finish.  I don't use mine every day but every other day works best for me.  I use it with either my Philosophy cleanser or the First Aid Beauty one.

I would definitely recommend the Foreo Luna.  It's so easy to use, you hardly need to charge it and it's also super easy to travel with.  I got mine in the mini size as I felt that was all I needed and it's still about the size of my cheek so perfect for me and even easier to travel with.

Have you tried the Foreo Luna yet?
