Christopher Kane: Watch This Space

Last week I entered a competition with London Fashion Weekend to write a piece for their blog.  I didn't win the competition unfortunately but they have given me a press pass to attend which I'm very excited about.  Anyway, I thought I would share the piece that I wrote with you.  The spec was to write about your favourite designer who would be featuring at Fashion Week.  I wrote about Christopher Kane.

Christopher Kane is a fashion designer from Scotland who got his first glimpse of fame in 2005 by winning the LancĂ´me Colour Award.  At the time, he was studying at Central St Martin’s College in London and working for fellow designers Russell Sage and Giles Deacon.

Kane’s designs are very ‘out there’ and stand out from the crowd.  There is definitely nothing boring or bland about his designs and he is well known for his use of neon colours.

I first spotted Christopher Kane in 2009 when he launched a range for Topshop.  I think it was a great idea for him to work with a high street brand as it meant more people were able to afford his designs and I think it gave him a lot more publicity too.  That same year he won British Collection of the Year at the British Fashion Awards and then went on to win the New Establishment Award in 2011.

Some of my favourite designs from him are the iconic ‘space’ like patterns he has on some of his dresses, making them both girly and fun but edgy and slightly rock chick at the same time.

I think Kane’s designs are quite easy to spot and I think that’s such a great achievement for a designer, for someone to know your design just by looking at the clothes.  I think being unique in the fashion industry is very important and Kane does it well.

Last year saw Kane win Womenswear Designer Award which is another great achievement and I think there will be plenty more to come from this fabulous designer!

Outfits of The Week

So with London Fashion Week just around the corner I thought what better time than to do an updated Outfits of The Week!

Starting off with this rock chick look.  I'm wearing Raybans (yes it was sunny this day surprisingly!), my 'Run DC10' t-shirt I got in Ibiza, black waxy skinny jeans from River Island and red converse.  I was meeting my mum for lunch this day so I just wanted something comfortable and thought this went well.  Millie Mackintosh has these skinny jeans which is why I originarly bought them and now I'm obsessed.  You can dress them up and down.  I was meeting my mum just a short walk from my flat so obviously had to have my Beats for my tunes!

This is me in Liverpool town centre and it was bloody freezing this day.  (I'm also hungover if you can't tell from my face).  Therefore, I wanted to wear something super comfty, especially as I was travelling back to London later that day.  I'm wearing my Hermes Homies beanie, a black long coat with leather sleeves from Zara, a dress by H&M and boots from Tesco.

This is just a random outfit I threw together when I was chilling with a friend at home. Again, got headphones on as always need those tunes in my ears!  My top is from Abercrombie & Fitch, the shorts are Forever 21, I can't remember where the socks are from now but you can get them everywhere and then my navy converse.  I love to wear little shorts and long socks, it just looks really cool and quirky but it still comfortable. Normally a look I go for in autumn or spring time when seasons are changing.

This is me going to the pub with a friend.  I was having a bad hair day so I threw on this hat by M&S.  The jacket is Tesco, vest is Primark, jeans are Zara and boots are Tesco.  I wanted a bit of colour to brighten up the navy jeans and black boots and I thought the clashing red and blue went well.

These are my new trainers I bought recently and I'm in love with them.  I just think they're super trendy, cool and again quirky which suits my style.  I wear them with tights and shorts or just skinny jeans.  They're from H&M.

This is me at work.  I don't know why I look so surprised, maybe I'm just really sleepy and trying to look extra awake haha.  This jumper is from Topshop and is super cute with short sleeves so I pair it over a long sleeved black silk shirt in the winter.

Lastly is me going for a run.  I've got a purple vest on from H&M who I think do great sports clothes.  Not really a shop most people would look for sports clothes but you have to check it out bcos it has such a good range.  The leggings are Missguided and the trainers are Nike.  I do love a good run!

I hope you all enjoy Fashion Week.  I can't wait to see what new deigns are out.

All About My Hair

Those of you that follow my blog or have read previous posts will know that I have keratin bonded hair extensions in so I thought I would give you a little run through of the products I use to maintain them.

Shampoo and Conditioner

To wash my hair I really like to use L'oreal Expert colour shampoo and conditioner.  I buy this at Sally's or Salon Services and it comes in a 750ml bottle which lasts for ages.  I always colour my hair so I prefer to use products that are going to hold the colour in well.

Hair Mask

Once a week I like to apply a hair mask to the ends and length of my hair to really make it soft and healthy looking.  For this I use Boot's Coconut and Almond Intensive Hair Mask which smells amazing, leaves your hair super soft and is a bargain at only £1.99.

Leave In Conditioner

Once I get out the shower I like to spray a bit of TIGI's leave in conditioner through the lengths just to soften it up and make it more easier to brush through any knots.

Hair Tools

I brush my hair through with a Tangle Teezer and dry it with a hairdryer by Revlon.

Hair Oil

Once dry I put a drop of L'oreal Elvive Extraordinary hair oil through the ends and the length of my hair, maybe massaging any excess into the roots as this makes your hair grow quicker.  The oil not only softens and makes my hair shiny but it also acts as a sealant to lock in the goodness and protect it from the baddies in the air (pollution etc)!

Hair Spray

When curling my hair I like to hold it all in place by using TIGI Rockaholic hair spray.  This gives a really firm hold.  My other favourite is L'oreal's Elnett.

Curling Tools

I use a few different tools to curl my hair depending on what type of curl I want.  If I want a big blown out bouncy curls I use heated rollers by Babyliss.  If I want more softer waves I use Remington Pearl curling wand.  Sometimes I like to just do a few curls at the end and I will use my small straighters also by Remington and if I want to straighten my hair I use my big straighters by Nicky Clarke.

Dry Shampoo

If I want to freshen up my hair if I don't have a chance to wash it I like to use Batiste dry shampoo on the roots.  I also use this sometimes to give my hair added volume.

Additional Products

Other products I like to use are the VO5 oomph powder which you put into the roots and massage in for added height.  Then I like to use the VO5 dry texturising spray which is like a mixture between dry shampoo and salt spray.  This is good for spraying though the ends when you want loose beachy waves.  Although this worked better on my hair when I didn't have the extensions as I think my hair is a bit too heavy now!  I also like TIGI's shine spray for a little sparkle :)

MAC Eyeshadow Pigments Review

I have recently really gotten into pigment eyeshadows for nights out.  They give a lot more intense colour for added glam, last ages and come in really pretty shades.  What's not to like!

I thought I would give you the low-down on my top 3.

Frozen White

This pigment is like a pearly white colour with a bluey purple shimmer to it.  It's really pretty to put over other colours to just give them a slight sparkle or can be worn on it's own maybe if you're going for a bold lip and don't want anything too intense on the eyes. You could also use it as a highlight as it's the perfect colour for that.

Old Gold

This is just a great colour to have because gold eyeshadows will go with any look and compliment any eye colour.  This one is like a frosty gold and works well with a bronzed smokey eye which I love to do, especially with a dark lip colour.

Blue Brown

Lastly this is this gorgeous brown colour with a bluey green shimmer.  Brown eyeshadow is probably my favourite colour eyeshadow to wear so I just had to have this pigment.  It's quite intense and you can make it even more intense by spraying your brush with Fix + first to really bring out the colour.  It's great for doing a heavy smokey eye and a teaming with a nude lip.
