Tips For Staying Organised
I worked as a secretary for about 7 years so I like to think I know a thing or two about being organised. Here are some of my top tips;
1. Diarise deadlines
As soon as I am notified of a deadline I put it straight into my calendar. I also put a reminder or two in 1 and 2 months before the deadline to make sure I don't forget or to prompt myself to take action.
2. Take notes
I used to be so bad at this, both in college and at work. For some reason I just hated writing things down and thought I could just rely on my memory. However, I learnt the hard way that my memory is not as good as I think and some things are too important to leave to chance!
3. Tidy desk, tidy mind
Sounds cliche but it really helps. I've always been pretty tidy so I actually enjoy keeping my desk clear but I also believe it helps in just knowing where everything is and being able to access it easily.
4. Make lists
I love making lists! I'm sure I even make them in my sleep but it really helps to stay on track and have a productive day. Sometimes I have so much I need to do that I don't even know where to start, however, if I make a list I can work my way through it and it's so satisfying looking back at the end of the day to see how much you've ticked off.
5. Find your flow
Figure out your work pattern and what works best for you. Whether you're a morning or afternoon person, whether you prefer to tackle the big tasks first or get the little ones out the way, or maybe you like to dissect a task into manageable sections. Find your flow and take it from there.
